Beauty products come from far and wide, and are listed as essentials for us GLAMAZONS, so something that I have been trying to do recently is ensure that my products are cruelty free and kind to the environment. Going cruelty free doesn’t only mean that I am working my way up the beauty ladder to FULLY fledged beauty icon, but I am doing so with a clear conscience and with the knowledge that the brands that I am using are using their position to promote AMAZING products that don’t have to damage our favourite little furry friends.
Due to the 30920 beauty products that are on the market, it can’t always be easy to ensure that you’re buying cruelty free products, and one way in which my life has been dramatically altered in this field is by the fab work that the Nature Watch Foundation do. They have created a ridiculously useful guide for people to be able to know whether or not the products that they’re buying are cruelty free. In their Compassionate Shopping Guide they detail over 165 endorsed personal care and cosmetics brands that are on the market. One aspect of their guide which I actually adored was the fact that they only shared companies in their guide who have parent companies that ALSO are cruelty free. This means that if a company is owned by a larger organisation that DOES test on animals, then even though the individual company may not, your money could be going towards their other brands that DO test on animals. What snakes.
They also shared with me some of their favourite products that are all cruelty free! These included brands that are on the high street such as Marks and Spencer and King Of Shaves, who both are personal favourites of mine anyway which was a nice surprise as it meant that the brands that I had already been using at home had already aligned with the cruelty free vibe, a definite win win. Other indie brands such as Daniel Field Laboratories, MuLondon, Conscious Skincare, Renu Skin Care and MANY more, and it’s really exciting to explore the – what feels like the BLACK MARKET of beauty – due to the fact that it’s all indie and UNIQUE and they ALWAYS smell amazing it’s so good. (Imagine oily herbal soothing goodness).
Now ladies I need to talk about something important. You know I use this website for VERY important discussion, and today is no exception, because millions of people are not utilising and experiencing one of the most important things in this WORLD. BARS OF SOAP. Yes, this may come as a shock to you, however it’s a national travesty that people just aren’t using bars of soap. Do tell me, what’s not to love about a wholesome, versatile and iconic bar of soap that you can LATHER up and cleanse your body and SOUL with. (I promise that sounded ok in my head). The gorgeous human beings at Bean and Boy create soap blends that are slowly processed to create soothing, calming blends for sensitive skin! Their social responsibility is also ICONIC as their products are all vegan, and all of their palm oil is responsibly sourced from suppliers who support plantations that are regularly and rigorously checked to conform to responsible sourcing legislation and criteria. Their packaging is also 90% biodegradable. AMAZING.
I have been using the Grapefruit and Calendula which is a gentle, nourishing and uplifting bar soap (we call this our “Happy Soap” because you can’t use this and not smile!) (I know… calendula IS an amazing word AND it’s a member of the DAISY FAMILY… I wish I was a member of the daisy family). The soap has a gorgeous texture to it and contains raw ingredients so you can see what you’re going to be smelling like for the next 24 hours. This is definitely something that I never knew I needed until now, especially when it comes to the lemongrass and poppyseed soap because IT’S SPECKLED WITH BLACK POPPYSEED GOODNESS. It’s packed full of antioxidants and naturally-occurring micro-nutrients and it’s like the oustide of a poppyseed bagel but inside soap. You feel?
LADIES TREAT YOURSELF TO 10% OFF THEIR SOAPS AND GORGEOUS PRODUCTS USING CODE: LEOPARDPRINTELEPHANT – YOU’RE WELCOME LADIES
My skin has been on a JOURNEY over the past 5/6 years and if you have me on my socials you will know ALL the products that I have been using over the past years to try and cleanse, tone and HELP my skin, so I have been trying this AMAZING Canadian brand called Skin Fix. My favourite thing about SkinFix, depsite the fact that they’re cruelty free, is the fact that there formula was created 140 years ago, meaning it doesn’t contain any modern day chemicals, irritants and fragrances that are incredibly harmful and drying to the skin! The Soothing Wash and daily lotion are perfect for people trying to find soothing, basic and general face washes to not irritate your skin and leave it feeling cleansed, moisturised and non dry.
Their products are also great for people prone to eczema due to their natural ingredients and dermatological approved products from the National Eczema Association! These have been a god send as I have stopped using products that are designed to counter act blemish prone skin, and just continue to use cleansing, calm and soothing products that are as irritating as a duckling on a pond wearing a beret (that means it’s NOT irritating ladies).
THIS product is yellow and has 18 USES. Ladies you might need to be sat down for the ICONIC Dr Bronners Pure – Castile Liquid Soap. Not only can you wash your body, your hair and your face with it, BUT YOU CAN WASH YOUR CLOTHES, YOUR DOG AND YOUR C A R WITH IT. I know what you’re thinking, but ladies trust me. This soap is iconic and has a super interesting USP, as it’s best used when diluted! For example, Dr Bronners have created a super helpful and handy guide to know just HOW many drops you’ll need to dilute the soap for all the 18 uses that this beauty has. Your face? 2-3 drops and some water! Dishes? Dilute 1 part Dr Bronners to 10 parts water! AMAZING! It also says here that you can use it to brush your teeth and I am PERPLEXED and can’t tell if this is a joke however… I will surely let you know (keep an eye on the instagram stories for that hilarity).
Definitely a must have for people who love to get their monies worth, people who love yellow AND people who love an intricate packaging design (the design LISTS all the benefits of the soap AND its 18 uses). ICONIC LADIES.
Serums are my FAVOURITE type of skincare because I feel like they’re the undisclosed spies of the skincare and beauty world. They work their magic in the dead of night, underneath the guise of moisturisers to TRANSFORM your faces into the gorgeous, iconic and GLOWING works of art that they are today. As a student, my serum game has been WEAK due to the fact that they’re usually £124509 and contain the tears of Victoria Beckham, however this cruelty free and indie brand serum from HealGel is perfectly affordable. The intensive gel contains ingredients that are perfect at treating a MULTITUDE of skin complaints such as stretch marks, scarring, blemishes, tired/dull looking skin, wrinkles, dryness. YOU NAME IT, this serum can help you. After using this bad boy twice a day for two weeks, I am already experiencing results and can DEFINITELY see a smoothing effect to the texture on my skin, and the redness has definitely reduced.
HealGel is the brainchild of a team of the world’s finest plastic surgeons, these skin saving formulas tackle every common skin concern you could think of and the range contains other gel serums for your eyes AND your body. (Who knew your eyes weren’t classed as your FACE? I’m joking but i’m also… not joking).
LADIES I hope you have enjoyed all the exploration of this cruelty free EXTRAVAGANZA AND do let me know if you try any of the products that have been featured, and don’t forget to take a look at the Bean and Boy products with my discount code, LEOPARDPRINTELEPHANT.
